“People and Water: Backgrounds and Approaches in Environmental Education” – Impressions from the AGUM Conference 2026

From February 3rd to 6th, 2026, 50 members of AGUM met at the Forum Grillensee in Naunhof (near Leipzig). Under the overarching theme of “People and Water,” Wednesday’s excursion focused on renaturation projects in the Leipzig floodplain forest and the former open-cast lignite mining areas, now the Werbeliner See nature reserve.

Thursday morning focused on the freshwater pearl mussel, featuring a wonderful biological presentation by “Fräulein Brehm” and a practical exercise in mollusk identification. In the afternoon, the participants’ presentations of their mobile units, materials, and methods, showcasing the extensive expertise of the environmental mobility team, impressed guests from LANU and the political sphere.

Friday morning centered on the state of our waterways and water analysis using the FLOW project.

A very successful and enriching conference, both in terms of content and camaraderie – a heartfelt thank you to the organizing team of the Planaria in Saxony!
